Quincy Williams is excited to finally face another team.
During his Tuesday media availability, the star linebacker of the New York Jets spoke about facing someone besides his own teammates in practice.

“We have some people who are going to come into our house and, you know, try to take over. So we’re not saying we’re having a fighting mindset, but a controlled combat mindset. That’s the mindset we want to have.”
Williams also spoke about his improvements over time and how he feels more comfortable playing linebacker.
“The anticipation is there. So, as far as seeing the same thing over and over and also realizing that offense is really the same, they just dress it up differently. So, I could say, for one instance, if I’m seeing the guys outside and I’m like, ‘Alright, come on in, come on in,’ then Aaron (Rodgers) is like, ‘Alright, come on in.’ So just having that mindset of what’s going to happen next and not what’s going on right now. The anticipation has helped me out a lot.”
When asked about covering Breece Hall every day, Williams said it’s like “iron sharpening iron.”
“He’s a wide receiver-type running back. He’s like one of the guys that we’re going against in Week 1, Christian McCaffrey. With me going against him throughout practice and stuff, in my mind, it gets me ready for that,” said Williams.
I actually call him out sometimes when he’s on the sideline, like after practice day, ‘Bro, can I get a few releases and stuff like that?’ It’s just helping me, but it’s also helping him, knowing that I’m one of the fastest linebackers in the league. So I’m also helping him.”
Williams is one of the most important pieces in the Jets’ defense. His speed in coverage and going from sideline to sideline helps the rest of the unit play at its highest potential.
Taking on a leadership role in 2024, Williams could go to a new level this season by combining a deeper level of command on the defense with his athletic gifts. If he does take another step forward, the Jets’ defense will only get better with him right in the middle of it.
