New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold loves working out with Jordan Palmer in the offseason and it’s completely fine with Adam Gase.
Who knows how often the New York Jets fan would catch a glimpse of Sam Darnold in the offseason if not for Jordan Palmer. The USC product has been working with the quarterback guru for quite some time now, and this offseason has been no different.
While the fan loves it, the question always remained, “What does the head coach think of his quarterback’s offseason adventures?”
On a Friday morning conference call, Adam Gase provided us the answer. To him, what Darnold is doing with Palmer in the offseason helps.
“Sam does a really good job of hitting Dowell and myself up before he hits the summer,” Gase said. …Jordan does a good job of working with him on the things he wants to work on and some of the things we want to implement as well.”

Darnold, 23, is ready to enter the third season of his professional career. For the first time since he was selected third overall in the 2018 NFL draft, not until this offseason has the offensive line outlook looked anything but gloomy.
The communication between Darnold and the Jets coaching staff seems to have remained on strong footing. Darnold’s willingness to work on what he’s intent on improving while spending time on the coaching staff’s teaching points makes for an extremely positive situation involving a young quarterback.
Palmer, a sixth-round pick by the Washington Redskins in the 2007 NFL draft, has been one of the go-to quarterback gurus for top quarterbacks in each NFL draft. Other quarterbacks who have spent the majority of their offseason with Palmer (and Darnold) are Redskins’ Kyle Allen and Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen—Darnold’s AFC East rival.
We’ve seen Darnold on the beach multiple times this offseason, including a video that featured him sharing training time with former Jet Mark Sanchez, and another that showcased great balls to stud running backs Saquon Barkley (New York Giants) and Christian McCaffrey (Carolina Panthers).
New York Jets training camp is slated to open in late July. Adam Gase is hoping Sam Darnold is ahead of the game thanks to Jordan Palmer’s help.
