FLORHAM PARK, NJDenzel Mims has a fever and the only prescription is more football.

Of course, joking about having a fever in today’s current climate is probably not the best idea. But hey, the “more football” prescription is as accurate as it gets.

The New York Jets rookie wide receiver cannot wait to get back to playing and believes he will “most definitely” be ready for Week 1 action.

“Yeah, it’s been very frustrating,” Mims told reporters after Wednesday’s practice in Florham Park, NJ.

Mims, 22, practiced for the first time with his new team Wednesday after dealing with a hamstring issue all summer long. Although he did not take part in teams, the Baylor product did participate in positionals. Previously, all he would do is run a bit on the side.

When asked if he ever had to deal with something like this previously, Mims was transparent.

“Nah, I never had to sit out this long,” Mims added. “(I) never had anything like this, but you know, I can’t control everything.”

Jets X-Factor Membership Logged Out

Mims, the team’s second-round selection in the virtual 2020 NFL Draft, tallied 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns on 66 total grabs. The man closely resembles Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green, who can go up and catch the ball at its high-point while toe-tapping his way to success on the sideline.

Head coach Adam Gase has to be looking forward to getting the kid on the field as soon as possible.

“This is the first time I’ve seen run routes live. He looked like he was running well,” Gase told reporters after practice. “I know we didn’t do anything crazy … seeing how far we can take him as fast as possible. We need him to put things on fast-forward mentally.”

The Jets next scheduled practice is Thursday morning and Denzel Mims should be there. Whether or not he’ll participate in teams remains to be seen.
