Dabo Swinney just received a round of applause from New York Jets fans for what he said about quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Dabo Swinney, come on down and take a bow for your extremely-impressed audience, New York Jets fans.

A couple of days after everybody lost their minds over Trevor Lawrence’s most recent words, the Clemson head coach decided to provide a shot in the arm of Jets fans by stating that he’d be surprised to see his stud quarterback return for a senior season.

“I mean, we’ll certainly let him stay if that’s what he wants to do,” Swinney said on SiriusXM on Thursday. “I’d be surprised if he’s back with the Tigers next year, but who knows? You never know. I didn’t think Christian Wilkins was coming back, but he did.”

Just two days prior, Lawrence placed the football world in a mini-frenzy by not fully committing to the NFL after the 2020 season.

“Kind of my mindset has been that I am going to move on,” Lawrence told reporters on Tuesday. “But who knows? There’s a lot of things that could happen.’

There’s really nothing to see here. Which collegiate player would ever fully commit to leaving school while a season is still in progress? The idea that he’s even mentioning leaving school at this stage of the game is a major reason to think he’s entering the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jets X-Factor Membership Logged Out

Lawrence, the 6-foot-6 junior, is already a national champion, having led the Tigers to the title his freshman season. He was also the nation’s top quarterback recruit coming out of Cartersville High School in Cartersville, GA.

The 0-7 Jets currently hold the No. 1 pick in the draft with the one-win Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings on their heels.
