The New York Jets have taken a 7-0 lead over the Las Vegas Raiders on the strength of a Sam Darnold-to-Jamison Crowder score.

Darnold, 23, hadn’t thrown a touchdown pass since late September in Indianapolis (a Braxton Berrios on-the-run score). The Crowder strike breaks a four-game touchdown-less streak.
Early in this one, everything the Las Vegas Raiders are doing is playing right into the Jets’ hands. Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther—a man who’s cut from a similar old-school cloth as Gregg Williams—is throwing out soft coverages. He’s playing plenty of 2-deep while not bringing any heat—something that favors Darnold.
Darnold completed 4 of 6 passes for 53 yards and the Crowder score on that opening drive. Both Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims got into the mix as well. Crowder caught two balls on the impressive opening drive.
Defensively, Arthur Maulet picked off Derek Carr on a pass that came off Henry Ruggs III’s hands.

The score remains 7-0 Jets with a little over four minutes to go in the first quarter.
