The future of the New York Jets suddenly looks much bleaker following a shocking upset over the Los Angeles Rams.
Jets fans’ worst nightmares have come true.
After manning the driver seat in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes for 14 consecutive weeks, the Jets have lost control. With the biggest upset of the NFL season, defeating the Rams in Los Angeles by a score of 23-20 as 17-point underdogs, the first pick in the 2021 NFL draft now rests in the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams sit at 1-13, but the Jaguars win the tiebreaker via their weaker strength of schedule. With that tiebreaker officially clinched by Jacksonville, the Jets need a worse record outright to steal back the top selection.
The legion of Jets fans is in disarray. If the team cannot get back into position to select Lawrence, months upon months of heated quarterback debates are on the horizon.
Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or trade down and build around Sam Darnold?
Landing at No. 1 would make the offseason a smooth-sailing one for the Jets and their fans, but all of a sudden, the waters ahead look much, much rougher.
Where to next? On the latest episode of the Cool Your Jets podcast, Ben Blessington and Michael Nania discuss their reactions to the loss, how the outlook of the team has changed, and what Joe Douglas should do in the event the Jets stay put at No. 2.
