EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The New York Jets pulled a trick out of their bag Sunday afternoon in the swamps of Northern New Jersey.

On a reverse pass that started in Ty Johnson‘s hands, with two pulling offensive linemen leading the way, Jamison Crowder found Braxton Berrios for a 43-yard touchdown to put the Jets up 7-3 late in the first quarter.

New York is playing well in the early going, especially its defense. The Cleveland Browns offense doesn’t have many receivers available, which has forced Baker Mayfield‘s unit to use plenty of base looks. The same can be said for Frank Bush‘s defense.

John Franklin-Myers has already tallied a sack, as has Frankie Luvu. Luvu’s sack forced a fumble which Foley Fatukasi recovered.

The turnover led to a Chris Herndon touchdown, his second of the season.

Sam Darnold currently has 76 yards and a touchdown (no interceptions) on 7 of 12 passing. Mayfield has just 86 yards on 8 of 14 passing.

The Jets lead 13-3 with a little over five minutes to go in the half. Sam Ficken‘s second extra-point attempt was blocked, while Cody Parkey‘s 44-yard field goal in the first quarter represents Cleveland’s only points thus far.

Jags-Bears watch

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars are hanging tough with the Chicago Bears. The score is tied at 10 with just two minutes to go in the first half. After falling down 10-3, Mike Glennon found DJ Chark Jr. for a score near the left flag of the end zone.

If the Jags come through and win, a Jets win would offset everything. Only a Jags win and Jets loss would flip the two in the 2021 NFL draft order and the right to select Trevor Lawrence.
