The waiting is over. For those of you worrying about Zach Wilson‘s official draft status, fret no more. The BYU quarterback is entering the 2021 NFL draft.

“After much thought, prayer and consideration, I am excited to announce, that I will be declaring for the 2021 NFL draft,” Wilson tweeted Friday. “I pray that I will always make Cougar Nation proud.”

Wilson, 21, has rapidly risen up the draft board over the last month and change. His electric arm and flair for the quarterback position have endeared him to New York Jets fans everywhere.

Remember, Wilson just finished his junior season at BYU. Although conventional wisdom led everybody to believe he’d enter the draft, Wilson hadn’t discussed the topic until Friday afternoon when he tweeted his intentions.

Wilson threw for 3,699 yards and 33 touchdowns to just three interceptions in 12 games this season.

Joe Douglas and the Jets hold the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL draft. Once 0-13 and comfortably matched with Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jets’ two-game winning streak has locked them into the two-hole.

The great offseason discussion will surround what the team should do at quarterback. Sam Darnold remains an option, although the organization will have to decide on his costly fifth-year option this offseason. Ohio State’s Justin Fields remains an option, as does Wilson, who just announced his intent.

Interestingly, Wilson announced the big decision at a particular time. He did so during the first half of the Alabama-Notre Dame College Football Playoff semifinal game. Not only is he ready to enter the NFL, but he’s also showcasing desirable business chops while doing so.
