New York Jets give the roster a massive shakeup

Along with the announcement of their 13-player practice squad, the New York Jets announced 10 roster moves, featuring five subtractions and five additions.

3 New York Jets players head to injured reserve

Tackle Conor McDermott (knee), safety Ashtyn Davis (foot), and linebacker Jarrad Davis (ankle) are off to injured reserve. They are eligible to return to practice after missing three games.

Once they return to practice, the Jets will have 21 days to place them on the active roster.

2 New York Jets players released

Bless Austin‘s release was announced earlier today by Mike Garafolo. We now know that second-year defensive end Jabari Zuniga will be joining him.

Zuniga has battled injuries throughout his first two seasons, but if he could have done anything of note on the field, his roster spot should have been just fine. Zuniga was atrocious, though, producing one pressure and one run stop over nine regular-season appearances and one preseason appearance.

3 New York Jets players signed to active roster

Safety Sharrod Neasman and tight ends Daniel Brown and Ryan Griffin have been signed back to the active roster after being released by the Jets.

Neasman gives the Jets a much-needed backup safety while Davis recovers. Brown and Griffin round out a four-man tight end room that looked dangerously thin following their own releases and the trade of Chris Herndon.

The spot opened by Herndon’s exit was filled by the signing of free-agent safety Sheldrick Redwine, a 2019 fourth-round pick of the Browns who picked off Ben Roethlisberger in the 2020 playoffs.

2 New York Jets players claimed off of waivers

As announced earlier, the Jets have claimed linebacker Quincy Williams and defensive end Tim Ward off of waivers.

The Jets’ roster now sits at 53 players.

In the current 53 , technically Herndon is still on the 53 , so possibly a spot opens up. Never thought Brown or Griffin would make it. Brown could do everything that Herndon could do as a TE, which is not much, but played on all ST. Jets have quietly and consistently invested in Special Teams
