The New York Jets are “excited” about the shape Mekhi Becton is in

New York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as the team reports to training camp today (July 26), but it appears he will not be on there for long.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Becton will be removed from the PUP list once he passes a physical.

Becton’s nutritionist, Ann Claiborne, provided an optimistic review of Becton’s progress throughout the offseason.

“He has slimmed down a lot,” Claiborne said. “He’s looking good, feeling good. Knee is doing a lot better. He is excited to play. I’m proud of my guy.”

Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that “it sounds like Mekhi Becton has been working hard since minicamp”, and that the Jets “are excited about the shape he is in.”

The Jets will not be holding practice today, as they will solely be holding conditioning tests. Several players will be available for the media later in the day. The first practice will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, July 27).

Rookies reported to training camp last Tuesday, but no on-field work has taken place.

Now that the 2022 season is officially underway, things will begin moving quickly. The Jets’ first preseason game is only 17 days away, as they will pay a visit to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Gang Green’s first training camp practice that is open to fans will take place this Saturday, July 30. Six more practices open to fans will follow, including the Green & White Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, August 6.

We can only hope he is in shape and starts to realize it is a year round jo, especially when you are 360 plus lbs. If he can ever get down just to 350 to 355lbs consistently he can probably be an All Pro and bordeline HOFer. But it is up to him. Hopefully these reports are no longer needed after this season.
