A New York Jets signal-caller is the namesake of a Patrick Mahomes audible
On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Chargers paid a visit to the Kansas City Chiefs for a battle between two high-powered Super Bowl contenders that promised to be incredibly exciting.
The New York Jets found a way to get involved in the game. At one point, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes yelled out an audible that prompted Jets fans to pause and rewind to make sure they actually heard what they thought they did.
Mahomes seemed to yell, “Mike White! Mike White! Mike White!”.

The “Mike White” call did not work too well. Mahomes was flushed out of the pocket and forced to throw the ball out of bounds.
However, it did not deter the Chiefs from pulling out a 27-24 victory over Justin Herbert and the Chargers. Kansas City moves to 2-0 and is the only remaining undefeated team in a stacked AFC West. Los Angeles falls to 1-1.
This is the second consecutive nationally-televised broadcast in which the Jets managed to get mentioned. During Monday night’s “Manningcast” of the Broncos-Seahawks game, Peyton Manning chastised the Jets for throwing the ball 59 times in their Week 1 loss to the Ravens.
As for the name-dropped quarterback in question, White remains the backup to Joe Flacco entering Week 2 despite the latter’s ghastly season-opening performance. However, head coach Robert Saleh did not seem 100 percent committal to Flacco when asked about the quarterback situation earlier this week.
“As of now, Joe’s our starting quarterback. It’s more than likely going to be Joe, but the door’s open on every position, every week.”
Saleh later affirmed that Flacco would start against the Browns this Sunday, but his lack of complete faith in Flacco is worth noting.
Late in the Jets’ loss to Baltimore, fans at MetLife Stadium began to chant White’s name, frustrated with Flacco’s abysmal production.
