Derek Carr receives another public vote over Aaron Rodgers as the New York Jets’ best quarterback target
A few days ago, Aaron Rodgers’ former Green Bay Packers teammate, wide receiver Greg Jennings, advocated for Derek Carr as the New York Jets‘ best quarterback option.
Now, another former NFL player has joined Jennings on the pro-Carr side of the debate.
Chris Simms, a former quarterback in the NFL for eight seasons, joined Eric Allen on the Jets’ official podcast to discuss the team’s quarterback situation, specifically regarding whether the Jets should go after Carr or Rodgers.

While Simms acknowledged Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great quarterback, he doesn’t think he’d be the best fit for the Jets.
When it came to Rodgers, Simms surmised, “I mean one, you’re going to have to trade away a lot of things, and give a guy a lot of money. … You don’t really know how long you’re gonna get him for. You could be right back in the [same] boat next year, depending (on) how they feel about Zach Wilson and all of that.”
Simms admitted that while Carr may not be the most realistic target for the Jets, he thinks the former Raiders signal-caller makes a lot more sense in more ways than one.
“The other guy that makes the most sense to me … is Derek Carr. I think that’s the next guy that makes the most sense. And maybe makes more sense than even Aaron Rodgers.”
Simms continued, “If you just wanna go, ‘wait we need a guy that’s gonna come in, run the offense, play good football, not add drama to the locker room and all that.’ The Jets are certainly a place I would look at if I was Derek Carr.”
With Derek Carr being spotted with Robert Saleh at a restaurant in New Jersey this weekend, Carr to the NY Jets could become more than just a possibility in the future.
