In an appearance on “The Michael Kay Show,” Robert Saleh responded to his rumored postgame comments to Sean Payton

Robert Saleh claims he did not say what some people think he said to Sean Payton.

The New York Jets defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 31-21 this past Sunday afternoon. During the postgame handshake, a video apparently showed Robert Saleh telling Sean Payton to “stay humble.”

Appearing on “The Michael Kay Show,” the Jets’ head coach laughed and responded with a no when asked about the postgame interaction with Sean Payton. When asked if he made any remarks, Saleh said, “It’s not my style; he’s going through it now, so no point in piling on.”

It is a fun conclusion to the events surrounding the Jets and Broncos for the past few months.

Sean Payton’s comments about offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, which included calling Hackett’s Broncos tenure “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL,” galvanized the Jets in the offseason and made the game a must-watch in the regular season. The support continued after the game, as multiple Jets players showed their backing of Hackett.

The Jets are now moving on to a tough matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles next week, but the significance of the victory in Denver should not be understated. It was a revenge win for Hackett and, more importantly, a win that saved the Jets’ season. At 2-3, the team now sits in the thick of the AFC standings.

Whether his comments were actually made or not, Saleh’s reaction after Sunday’s game showed the importance of the victory in both the present moment and for the rest of the Jets’ 2023 season.
