This is an unusual sight for New York Jets fans
The people over at Pro Football Focus recently released their offensive tackle rankings for the 2024 season. New York Jets fans are not used to seeing their team’s tackles anywhere near these lists, but things have changed after an active offseason.
Tyron Smith leads the way for New York, placing seventh overall. Morgan Moses followed, coming in at 18th. Combined, PFF ranked Smith and Moses as the fifth-best tackle duo in the NFL.

For Jets fans, it’s been a very long time since they’ve seen one top-20 tackle, let alone two.
The Jets’ offensive line has been a mess for almost a decade since losing Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson. General manager Joe Douglas has spent plenty of money and resources on the unit since joining the team in 2019. Unfortunately, the results have been disappointing, to say the least.
This offseason, Douglas continued making big moves, adding Smith and guard John Simpson in free agency, trading for Moses, and then drafting Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the first round. These moves should ensure the Jets’ offensive line won’t hold the team back. And just maybe, it can even be a strength to rely on.
Based on PFF’s rankings, only the Buccaneers, Lions, Eagles, and Vikings have better tackle duos, and there’s a decent gap between the Jets and the sixth-ranked Colts. In case of injury, the Jets have a first-round pick waiting behind their talented starting duo, making it one of the strongest tackle groups in the league.
While this is great to see, it means nothing until it happens on the field. The Jets’ offensive line has the most talent it has had in years – now it just needs to live up to that potential.
