These are the intriguing stories to monitor when the New York Jets open training camp on July 23
We are just a few days away from some real New York Jets news rather than endless speculation. Who better to provide context to that news than ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets’ lead beat writer? Cimini joined The Score Boord Podcast to discuss the leading Jets storylines heading into training camp.
While it was tempting to ask Cimini more about his background covering the Jets and some of his favorite stories, it’s not what fans most want to hear from a beat writer. We went straight into the narratives most closely surrounding the Jets.
- Will the Jets acquire Davante Adams or Brandon Aiyuk, and if so, when?
- Which one of the 2022 draft picks is the most and least likely to get a contract extension with the Jets? (His answer was particularly interesting.)
- How will the Haason Reddick situation be resolved?
- Will Michael Carter II receive a contract extension this offseason?
- Why did Robert Saleh tell the media that Aaron Rodgers’ absence from mandatory minicamp was unexcused?
- Was Tim Boyle the one who leaked the Zach Wilson story in 2023?
Cimini also shed light on some of the Jets’ offseason moves, including not re-signing Bryce Huff and trading John Franklin-Myers.
Cimini’s record prediction will ruffle some feathers among Jets fandom. I am personally more optimistic about the team, but that largely hinges on getting at least decent health from Rodgers, Mike Williams, Tyron Smith, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Morgan Moses. That’s an awful lot of “ifs” for a contending team.
