“That’s something that not every quarterback is going to be able to do”
The New York Jets’ young starting center is excited for the upcoming NFL season.
Appearing on “The Jake Asman Show,” Joe Tippmann discussed various topics surrounding himself and the team heading into 2024.
Tippmann described his experience running the Jets’ offense alongside Aaron Rodgers, saying that the veteran quarterback will get them on “the same page every play.”
“Aaron, at any point, could be like, let’s go here or walk up and say we are running a completely different play. That’s what I love about him…that’s something that not every quarterback is going to be able to do. I don’t know if any quarterback can do it as good, as fast, and as clearly as Aaron can.”

Tippmann also spoke about his interactions with Nick Mangold, which included the former Jets star coaching him “on specific footwork and techniques” for inside zone and gap run concepts.
“Just being able to throw stuff at him, he gave me his number and told me to reach out any time. He told me he is available to help me out. That is just a great feeling because he is awesome. He has really helped me out and has been there for me when I need to ask questions. Having him at practice is so helpful.”

Later in the show, Tippmann shared a story about how he ended up in the starting lineup, saying that he was “ready” but did not necessarily “expect” to play immediately.
“I told [my agent], I was like, ‘Yeah, it looks like I’m not going to be starting.’ He was like, ‘Oh, no worry, you’ll be starting by the third game.’ And I was like, ‘Alright dude, whatever, I don’t know what you’re thinking, but whatever.’ And the next thing you know, I called him that week and I was like, ‘Hey Joe, I’m starting,'” said Tippmann.

Tippmann was one of the best and most consistent players on the Jets’ offensive line last season. He showed prowess in all areas and a level of versatility that benefits the Jets immensely.
Coming off his first full offseason in the NFL, Tippmann seemingly has the guidance and mentality to take his play to the next level. If he continues his trajectory, he will be one of the most significant pieces on offense for a Jets team hoping to compete in the deep AFC.
