The New York Jets opened up their preseason with a 20-17 win against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium.
On offense, the Jets did not do much with Tyrod Taylor as quarterback, as most of their offensive starters were sitting. They saw their first score come on a great drive from third-string quarterback Andrew Peasley, who hit wideout Jason Brownlee on one of the best throws of the day. It was set up by some great running from Braelon Allen and a great receiving play from Isaiah Davis.

In the second half, quarterback Adrian Martinez led back-to-back scoring drives to get the Jets the lead late in the game. On the first drive, Martinez made some great throws, including a dime to fellow UFL alumni Brandon Smith. This set up a touchdown for second-year running back Israel Abanikanda.

On the second drive, Martinez made one of the best throws of the game, hitting Smith again across his body while on the run from a defender. This set up the game-winning field goal from kicker Austin Seibert.

On defense, Jarrick Bernard-Converse and Leonard Taylor III were the standouts. JBC had multiple pass breakups and deflections, as the Commanders kept targeting him down the field. Taylor III had multiple pressures, a tackle for loss, and a big sack that helped set up the game-winning drive for the offense.
