Remember Adam Gase’s introductory press conference with the New York Jets six years ago? Picture the polar opposite.
That is what Aaron Glenn delivered in his introductory press conference as the New York Jets’ head coach.
Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey spoke to the media together for the first time on Monday afternoon. Glenn received rave reviews from fans and media members alike for the passion, conviction, presence, and leadership he displayed while speaking on the podium and fielding questions about his philosophy.
In an intense message delivered to the current roster, Glenn advised his new players to “put their seatbelts on and get ready for the ride.” He acknowledged there will be challenges, but passionately assured, “We’re the freakin’ New York Jets, and we’re built for this s—.”
While acknowledging that he took interviews with other teams, Glenn said the Jets were the team he was aiming to join from the beginning.
“I want this job. I interviewed for a number of them. But I wanted this job. When I was going to my second interviews, I wanted to make sure this would be my first of the second interviews. Because I didn’t want to leave the building without shaking Woody’s hand and making sure we had a contract. So I’m just telling you now, everything else was really out of it. It was all about the Jets, and it’s been that way since the beginning.”
Glenn recalled the advice he received from Bill Parcells to become a scout before getting into coaching.
Mougey also spoke at the podium, saying, “It is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life to be named general manager of the New York Jets.”
New York’s new GM expressed excitement about working alongside Glenn, recalling a story from when he contributed to the Denver Broncos’ interview with Glenn for the team’s head coaching vacancy in 2022.
