According to two prominent NFL reporters, the New York Jets are closing in on a decision regarding Aaron Rodgers' future.

The clock is ticking for the New York Jets to make a decision on quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to one report, that decision could come very soon.

On the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that the Jets are “closing in on decision time for Aaron Rodgers.”

“The Jets and Aaron Rodgers have been in discussions about his future and a decision on whether the four-time NFL MVP returns to New York could come as soon as this week, per sources,” their report reads.

Rapoport and Pelissero detailed that Rodgers would likely take a pay cut if he stayed with the team.

“If Rodgers stays, he’d almost surely have to take a pay cut from his scheduled 2025 base salary of $37.5 million. (Several decorated veteran QBs — Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees — all took pay cuts at the end of their careers.) Rodgers likely also needs to commit to being with the Jets during the offseason program to learn a new system under first-time offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, something that would benefit all parties.”

It is noteworthy for Rapoport and Pelissero to mention Engstrand’s scheme, which is a critical factor in this equation. As broken down in a Saturday article at Jets X-Factor, Engstrand comes from a Detroit Lions offensive scheme that vastly differs from the one Rodgers helped construct for the Jets in 2024. If Rodgers is to make things work with the Jets in 2025, it would require his full commitment to not only learning a new scheme, but altering his play style.

Clarity seems to be on the horizon regarding Rodgers and the Jets.
