The New York Jets have traded up to the No. 130 overall pick to draft Alabama safety Malachi Moore. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were the team to trade the pick to New York, a fourth-round selection.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Jets gave up a sixth-round pick this year (No. 207 overall) to trade up 15 spots with Philly and secure Moore.

A four-star recruit hailing from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, AL, the defensive back committed to Alabama, ultimately spending all five college seasons in Tuscaloosa.

Appearing in 64 total games throughout his college career for the Crimson Tide, Moore totaled 214 combo tackles (16 for loss), with seven interceptions, 25 pass defenses, and three forced fumbles.

“Moore can play all the safety spots but is more effective in coverage than he is when helping against the run,” NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote of Moore. “He has average top-end speed but makes up for it with good awareness and ball location when playing down the field. Moore could be asked to line up as a nickelback or split safety, but solid backup might be as high as his ceiling goes.”

The 23-year-old was stingy in coverage during the 2024 season, posting a stellar 89.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus, while also producing at a high level against the run, logging a 75.5 run-defense grade.

Despite tendering Tony Adams and signing Andre Cisco this offseason, the Jets lack depth at the safety position.

The Alabama product could provide that for New York as a fourth-round developmental option.
