The New York Jets’ former general manager has found his next NFL home – and it’s a familiar place.

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Joe Douglas is returning to the Philadelphia Eagles’ front office.

McLane described Douglas’ new job as “a senior scouting role.”

Prior to becoming the Jets’ general manager in 2019, Douglas spent four years in the Eagles’ front office (2016-19) as Philadelphia’s vice president of player personnel. He contributed to the franchise’s Super Bowl championship run in the 2017-18 season.

Before joining the Eagles, Douglas spent one season as the Chicago Bears’ director of college scouting (2015). This was preceded by 15 seasons as a scout for the Baltimore Ravens (2000-14).

New York fired Douglas on November 19, 2024, after the team entered its Week 12 bye with a 3-8 record. This came six weeks after the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh.

Douglas was hired as the Jets’ general manager in June 2019, but the team had already gone through free agency and the draft led by Mike Maccagnan. Douglas’ first full offseason as New York’s GM came in 2020, beginning a five-season run as the team’s head decision-maker.

Despite occasional glimpses of competency, Douglas ultimately finished his Jets tenure with abysmal results across a half-decade. The Jets went 25-59 across his five full seasons, never making the playoffs or finishing with more than seven wins.

After he was fired by the Jets, Douglas spent some time in a media role with FOX Sports, specifically focusing on the 2025 NFL draft. In this role, he offered some comments on the Jets’ draft selections under his replacement, Darren Mougey.
