Frustration is mounting in the New York Jets’ winless locker room, resulting in some juicy quotes from the star-crossed professional football franchise.

Running back Breece Hall offered up one of the most eye-popping quotes from New York’s latest loss, a 27-21 stinker against the previously winless Miami Dolphins that was much less competitive than the final score suggests.

Asked to sum up the Jets’ embarrassing loss, New York’s 24-year-old rusher said, “Teams shoot themselves in the foot, then we come back and shoot ourselves in the head.”

While Hall could have perhaps found a more PG metaphor to get his point across, he hit the nail on the head.

The Dolphins gifted the Jets numerous chances to get back into the game, bailing them out with missed throws from Tua Tagovailoa and untimely penalties. But every time Miami tried to give the game away, New York politely declined the offer with an even more egregious blunder.

With 13 penalties, three lost fumbles, foolish return-game decisions from Isaiah Williams, and a total of missed tackles that would be too large to fit on this page, the Jets looked like a group of lucky fans who had the opportunity to suit up for their favorite NFL team.

Hall’s metaphor is wildly blunt, but unfortunately, it is quite accurate. When other teams commit minor errors to give the Jets a chance, New York responds by committing back-breaking errors that cannot be rebounded from.

Hall and the Jets will look to return to the locker room with sunnier things to say next Sunday when they host the 1-2-1 Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium.
