The NFL draft is one of the most unpredictable events in sports. Not only is it difficult to predict how each prospect will pan out, but it is also a given that the board will quickly shift from expectations through stunning trades and shocking decisions.
As we all know, the Jets’ flexibility this year is endless, with two top-16 picks and four selections in the top 44.
One of many possibilities for the team is to make their pick at No. 2 and then trade back inside the top 10 to land another elite-level prospect, which NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah recently predicted.
According to SI’s Albert Breer, several teams picking behind the Jets at No. 2 are already exploring trade-down options. That list includes the Arizona Cardinals (No. 3), Tennessee Titans (No. 4), New York Giants (No. 5), Cleveland Browns (No. 6), and Washington Commanders (No. 7).
In other words, if the Jets want to get aggressive and move back up, the opportunity should be there.
There are multiple names the Jets could covet in a potential trade up from No. 16, including Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate and linebacker Sonny Styles.
In Jeremiah’s latest mock, he predicted the Jets to select Texas Tech’s David Bailey at No. 2 and then strike a trade with the Washington Commanders to move up to No. 7, selecting Tate. In exchange for the pick, Gang Green gave up picks 16 and 44.
Per the trade value chart, that would be a near-even trade. The Jets’ combo of picks 16 and 44 is worth 1,548, while pick No. 7 is worth 1,500.
Whether the Jets will ultimately move back into the top 10 remains unknown, but according to Breer, if they are interested, there will certainly be multiple teams picking up the phone.
