Ahead of training camp, the New York Jets have assigned injury designations to three players.
The team announced that they have placed wide receiver Tim Patrick and edge rusher Tyler Baron on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, while placing defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat on the NFI (Non-Football Injury) list due to a hamstring injury.
Per The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, Patrick “isn’t expected to be out long,” while Sweat’s hamstring issue “is not considered serious.”
While it remains unclear what Patrick’s injury is, he missed both the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to an ACL tear and a torn Achilles in back-to-back seasons, giving him a history of serious knee injuries.
The positive, though, is that he’s not expected to miss too much time, according to Rosenblatt.
As for Baron, landing on the PUP list comes at a bad time. Following a disappointing rookie season, the 2025 fifth-round pick was already facing an uphill climb to make the team’s 53-man roster. Now, it’s going to be even more challenging as he’s slated to miss time due to injury.
The Jets shouldn’t rush Sweat back into action. The good news is that it’s not considered serious. He is expected to play a huge role on the Jets’ defensive line this season after being acquired for Jermaine Johnson.
Throughout his two years in the league, Sweat has established himself as an elite run stopper. His absence at the start of the regular season would be detrimental for the team’s front four, so it’s wise to play it slow.
Rookies reported to Florham Park on Saturday while veterans are slated to report on Wednesday, with the team’s first practice taking place on Thursday.
Injuries are always a key storyline to monitor as training camp progresses.
