Ahead of training camp, there are more injury updates for the New York Jets.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Jets are taking wide receiver Tim Patrick off the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list while designating edge rusher Joseph Ossai there.
Hughes did not disclose the type of injury that landed Ossai on the list. The good news, though, is that he noted the edge rusher shouldn’t be on the list for too long.
Patrick was only placed on the PUP list on Saturday, before being removed on Tuesday, indicating the injury wasn’t very serious, as he will begin training camp on the field.
Something to keep in mind with the receiver is that he has a history of knee injuries, having missed both the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to an ACL tear and a torn Achilles in back-to-back seasons.
Ossai, 26, signed with the Jets on a three-year, $36 million deal in free agency. He is expected to play a key role in the team’s revamped edge rotation this year.
In 2025, with the Cincinnati Bengals, he logged five sacks, 43 total tackles, two forced fumbles and 12 quarterback hits across 14 games (nine starts).
He generated a career-high 43 total pressures while establishing himself as a solid run-defender. He finished the year with a 70.7 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus, ranked 15th among 64 qualifiers at his position.
While it’s encouraging to see Patrick off the PUP list quickly as a 32-year-old with a knee injury history, the Jets will hope Ossai’s stint on the list is short-lived, as he is expected to have an important defensive role this year.
