The 2026 season will feature a new-look wide receiver room for the New York Jets.
Entering his first full season with the organization, Adonai Mitchell is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s passing attack.
The Jets’ WR1, Garrett Wilson, has high praise for Mitchell, describing him as a “ticking time bomb” on Wednesday, while expressing excitement to play a full season alongside the Texas product.
“Whenever Sunday comes, let’s do what we’ve been doing, make plays, do it when the world is watching,” said Wilson. “That boy can play.”
With Geno Smith at quarterback, Mitchell could be in for a career season due to his field-stretching ability, an area where Smith has thrived at his peak.
In his two NFL seasons, Mitchell has been one of the best separators in football; he just hasn’t had a QB who has been able to consistently get him the ball. That could change with Smith.
There is a strong possibility that Mitchell could emerge as the Jets’ No. 2 option at wide receiver alongside Wilson, which would be a huge win after the pass-catcher was acquired as a throw-in alongside two first-round picks in the Sauce Gardner trade.
If Mitchell continues to separate at the level he has, the production will come.
With Smith’s willingness to push the ball downfield, Mitchell could emerge as the Jets’ go-to deep threat on the outside while Wilson wins in the shorter and intermediate game with his twitchiness.
The pieces are in place for Mitchell to finally break out, and Wilson feels confident in his ability to do so.
