Following the NFL draft, the New York Jets’ pass-catching corps was among the youngest in the league.
Enter 32-year-old Tim Patrick, who signed with the team in May.
Speaking with the media, Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell emphasized the “experience” and “guidance” that the veteran brings to the Big Apple.
“He brings a lot of experience, a lot of guidance,” said Mitchell. “He’s definitely our leader in the room, I’ll say that.”
As we broke down, Patrick could carve out a bigger role with the Jets than many expect.
Despite being largely viewed as a player brought in for leadership and experience, which is certainly valuable, let’s not forget he can still produce on Sundays.
Throughout 2025, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he hauled in 15 of 24 targets for 187 yards and three touchdowns. He was even more productive during the 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, posting 394 yards and three TDs across 33 receptions in 16 games (nine starts).
He is also poised to contribute as a run blocker, which is a highly valuable asset for a veteran, big-bodied WR at the back of the depth chart.
In each of the past three seasons, Patrick’s run-blocking grade at Pro Football Focus has finished above 60.0 (strong for a wide receiver). Last season, he posted a 64.9 mark, which ranked sixth among 74 qualified wide receivers (minimum 200 run-blocking snaps).
Throughout training camp, the veteran’s internal impact has already been felt, according to Mitchell, who is just 23 years old. While he appears to have been signed for his leadership, which Mitchell raved about, he still appears capable of producing.
