The New York Jets’ injured edge rushers are working their way back to full strength.

According to reporters in Florham Park for today’s joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, No. 2 overall pick David Bailey, who suffered a minor ankle injury on Saturday, is on the practice field with pads.

Prior to the ankle tweak, Bailey was making plays on the practice field. Reports, particularly from our own Robby Sabo, also indicate his fundamentals and discipline have improved throughout the summer, which is all you can ask for.

Assuming he participates in today’s joint practice, Bailey’s injury didn’t force him to miss any practices. The team had off days on both Sunday and Monday before ramping back up with joint practices today and tomorrow against Tampa Bay, with the two teams set to face off to begin their preseasons on Friday.

In other news, Brian Costello of the New York Post reported that fellow edge rusher Joseph Ossai will be removed from the team’s PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list today.

Although he won’t practice this week, Costello added that Ossai “can begin working his way back and could practice next week.”

Given that, it sounds highly unlikely that Ossai will appear in the team’s preseason game on Friday, but the good news is that he is now ready to begin his training camp.

Ossai began his summer on the PUP list and has yet to participate in a training camp practice. Now that he is removed from the list, the next defensive injury Jets fans should be looking for updates on is defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.

Sweat was placed on the NFI (Non-Football Injury) list before camp began due to a hamstring issue and has yet to be removed, with no recent updates from Aaron Glenn on his status.

For someone of his size at 6-foot-4 and 366 pounds, these are meaningful practices not only to get acclimated to his new team but also to get conditioned ahead of the preseason.

With Bailey and Ossai now back, all eyes will turn to Sweat.
