New York Jets legend Darrelle Revis was one of the Buffalo Bills’ biggest nightmares for years.
Now, the Hall of Famer wouldn’t mind joining the organization.
In an exclusive conversation with Tim Graham of The Athletic, Revis spoke about his former teammate with the Jets, Jim Leonhard, who is now Buffalo’s defensive coordinator, emphasizing that he’d “love” to join Leonhard’s staff.
“I’m not joking at all,” Revis told Graham. “I’ve always loved the game, and I’ve always loved playing with Jim.”
“I think Jim will be a future head coach,” the former cornerback added. “Tell him if he needs a secondary coach to give me a call. Maybe this is my interview where I tell Jim that if he ever needs help, to keep me at the top of the list.”
Leonhard and Revis were teammates in New York from 2009-11, the most recent glory days of Jets football. Since then, the team hasn’t returned to the postseason.
Revis, a four-time All-Pro and Hall of Famer, has no coaching experience at the professional or collegiate level, although he’s helped with his son’s high school teams.
Now that his children are older, Revis told Graham that he is looking to enter the coaching ranks, and where better to start than by working under his former teammate, Leonhard, who is widely regarded as one of the youngest and brightest defensive minds in the game.
Leonhard, 43, was a highly coveted defensive coordinator candidate this offseason who ultimately landed with Buffalo. He was one of eight candidates to virtually interview for the Jets’ DC job.
From 2024-25, he was the Denver Broncos’ defensive pass-game coordinator, helping the Broncos build one of the league’s best units against the pass. He received a promotion in 2025, becoming Sean Payton’s assistant head coach, and now he is making the full leap to DC.
Based on his comments, Revis Island is at least interested in considering a move upstate.
