The New York Jets have made a roster swap at wide receiver.

On Wednesday, the team officially announced it has waived/injured wide receiver DT Sheffield and signed wide receiver Junior Bergen.

Sheffield, 25, was an undrafted free agent signing out of Rutgers. Listed at 5-foot-7 and 175 pounds, Sheffield caught 44 passes for 577 yards for Rutgers in the 2025 season. In the 2024 season for North Texas, he caught 66 passes for 822 yards and 11 touchdowns. Sheffield also played for Washington State, catching four passes for 26 yards in 2023.

Sheffield’s roster spot has been taken by Bergen, a 2025 seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers out of Montana.

Bergen, 23, was primarily drafted for his return skills. He scored an astronomical eight punt return touchdowns at Montana from 2022-24.

Across three games in the 2025 preseason, Bergen averaged 21.3 yards on six kick returns (long of 25) and 9.5 yards on four punt returns (long of 28). Offensively, he caught one of his three targets for 1 yard with one drop.

San Francisco waived Bergen as part of final roster cuts but kept him on the practice squad throughout the season. In January, he signed a reserve/futures deal. San Francisco waived Bergen before the team’s preseason opener.
