The New York Jets have made their first cutdown-day trade.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets are acquiring center Jordan Meredith from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Meredith, 28, was one of the league’s most effective interior offensive linemen in 2024.
However, he stepped back in 2025 after the Raiders moved him to center. Across 11 starts, he surrendered four sacks and 20 total pressures. He also committed four penalties while ranking 32nd among 40 qualified centers at PFF.
It became obvious throughout the summer that the Jets were in need of offensive line depth, and Meredith should offer just that with experience at all three spots on the interior of the offensive line.
How the acquisition impacts some of the candidates in line to serve as interior offensive line depth remains to be seen. Xavier Newman and Marquis Hayes are two of the names projected to potentially make the initial 53-man roster.
Perhaps more intriguing is rookie Anez Cooper’s injury situation, considering he left Friday’s 23-6 preseason loss to the New York Giants. He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game with a shoulder injury, and whether or not he’ll be healthy enough to avoid injured reserve remains to be seen.
