When the New York Jets take the field for their Week 1 clash against the Tennessee Titans, it will be Tennessee’s first game with a new-look coaching staff.
Robert Saleh, a familiar face for Jets fans, will be making his coaching debut in the Music City alongside his offensive coordinator, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
Saleh and Daboll have a unique advantage going into Sunday’s game: Nobody knows what their system will look like in Tennessee.
How will the Jets prepare for the matchup with that in mind?
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn offered a sneak peek into their process when talking to the media on Tuesday.
“Absolutely, you have to take every bit of information and try to figure it out; there aren’t a lot of people who just totally change who they are. Obviously, there will be some wrinkles, and I told our guys we have to be ready for in-game adjustments. That’s going to be one of the biggest parts of this game: how we adjust,” said Glenn.
“That could be adjusted on the sideline on the fly; that could be adjusted at halftime to what they’re doing, and our guys understand that,” he continued. “But you look at every bit of information you can to figure out how these guys operate.”
We recently dove deep into Daboll’s personnel preferences and schematic tendencies from his four seasons as the Giants’ HC and offensive play-caller.
Keep an eye on a fair share of 12 personnel looks. In 2025, although Daboll was fired after Week 10, the Giants finished seventh in 12-personnel rate at 32.5%.
Tight end Daniel Bellinger, whom Daboll coached for his whole career with the Giants, followed him to Tennessee, while there are also expectations for 2025 fourth-round pick Gunnar Helm, who enjoyed a solid rookie year.
Whatever looks the Titans’ new coaches put on the field, the Jets have to be on their toes and ready to make in-game adjustments, as Glenn acknowledged.
