There will be more smiles than usual in the tri-state area on this Monday morning.

The New York Jets and New York Giants both won their season openers, marking the first time this has occurred since 2009.

The Jets, though, actually enjoyed four victories on their glorious opening Sunday.

On top of their one-sided 23-10 win in Tennessee, the Jets benefited from wins by the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, and the Giants.

Why? Well, they defeated the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys, whose future draft picks are tied to the Jets.

New York owns Indianapolis’ first-round pick in the 2027 draft via the Sauce Gardner trade. The Jets also own the better of the two first-round picks between Green Bay and Dallas, courtesy of the Quinnen Williams trade.

Dallas acquired Green Bay’s 2027 first-round pick in the Micah Parsons trade. The Cowboys then agreed to send either their own 2027 first-round pick or the Packers’ to the Jets in exchange for Williams, whichever one lands higher.

And on opening Sunday, all three of the teams New York is rooting against lost their respective openers.

In a hilarious image, the Jets technically have two top-five picks in the 2027 NFL draft.

Obviously, there are 16 games left to play, so it would be silly to place any real stock in the draft order right now. Still, this is an early glimpse of the side plot that the Jets and their fans will be closely monitoring throughout the year.

Indianapolis will be particularly fascinating to watch. With the likes of post-Achilles tear Daniel Jones at quarterback and a questionable defense, the Colts are a team that could implode quickly.

Dallas is unlikely to finish with one of the worst records in the NFL, but after back-to-back seven-win seasons, they still have everything to prove now that they have started 0-1 with a division loss.

Green Bay is the likeliest team to stay afloat and finish with a winning record, given that head coach Matt LaFleur has gone above .500 in six of his seven seasons. But the Jets will have an opportunity next Sunday to bury the Packers in an 0-2 hole when they come to MetLife Stadium.
