The New York Jets shouldn’t have to wait long to see their prized rookie receiver again.

After being carted off with an ankle sprain in his NFL debut against the Tennessee Titans, Omar Cooper Jr. is “week-to-week”, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, after an MRI showed “positive news”. The hope is that he returns within the next four weeks, which indicates that Cooper will not be going on injured reserve.

This is the second relatively positive injury update that the Jets received on Tuesday after scares on Sunday. Starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is on a similar timetable with his groin injury, as he is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.

Cooper was chosen 30th overall in the 2026 NFL draft after the Jets traded back up into the first round to land him.

The Indiana product started for New York in the slot on Sunday. He only played five snaps before exiting, but that was all he needed to make his mark on the game. Cooper bullied Titans cornerback Alontae Taylor on a run block, and on his lone target, Cooper spun out of two tackles on his way to a 30-yard catch-and-run that set up a touchdown run by fellow first-round rookie Kenyon Sadiq.

After Cooper’s exit, Isaiah Williams took over as the Jets’ slot receiver, finishing with 40 offensive snaps (60%). Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell led the Jets with 50 snaps (75%) and 46 snaps (69%), respectively.

New York’s next four games are against the Green Bay Packers (home), the Detroit Lions (road), the Chicago Bears (road), and the Cleveland Browns (home).
