The New York Jets have undergone a quarterback shake-up.
In the third-string spot.
According to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, the Jets are signing Will Levis to their practice squad, while they are releasing Bailey Zappe.
Levis, 27, takes over as the Jets’ No. 3 QB, with Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik leading the way on the active roster.
Levis worked out with the Jets just before the regular season, when they were preparing to face his former team, the Tennessee Titans. New York did not initially sign him to gain his intel on the franchise that released him in August, but the Jets had no problem with the Titans anyway, winning 23-10, and they have now elected to add Levis a few weeks later.
The Titans chose Levis with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. From 2023-24, the Kentucky product started 21 games for Tennessee, leading them to a 5-16 record.
In his 21 regular season appearances as a Titan, Levis completed 61% of his passes for 3,899 yards (7.0 yards per attempt), 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He was sacked 69 times (11.0% sack rate), fumbled 17 times (losing 10), and posted an 82.7 passer rating. Levis also rushed 70 times for 240 yards (3.4 yards per attempt) and one touchdown.
Levis missed the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. In 2026, he competed with Mitchell Trubisky for the backup quarterback spot behind Cam Ward, but lost, culminating in his release as part of final roster cuts.
