Although the late-game personal foul that gave the New York Jets a better chance against the Las Vegas Raiders was celebrated in real time, it has since come back to haunt them on the other side.

Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson has officially been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 9 road clash against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced the news on Friday, during his usual presser with the media.

Wilson, 26, currently has 527 yards and 3 scores on 43 receptions (in 8 games played this season). After a couple of quiet weeks, Frank Reich’s offense targeted Wilson early and often in the team’s 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders this past Sunday.

Unfortunately, the previously mentioned late-game personal foul โ€” of the helmet-to-helmet variety โ€” caused Wilson to enter the league’s concussion protocol following the game. Wilson failed to practice this week, showing up as a DNP for each of the three official practice days, per the Jets injury report.

Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich spoke about the potential absence during his weekly coordinator availability with the media on Thursday.

“You can’t replace Garrett Wilson,” Reich said. “He’s a unique player. On the other hand, we’re not afraid. Did you see the game [AD Mitchell] had? Did you see the games [Omar Cooper Jr.] has had? We have a lot of confidence in our guys.”

On the positive side of things, running back Breece Hall is slated to play in his first game since sustaining a quad injury during Week 3’s loss to the Detroit Lions. He and the emerging Braelon Allen should account for a tremendous one-two punch.

Rookie edge defender David Bailey is also back from injury after missing the team’s most recent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders due to a groin injury. After logging a limited practice on Wednesday, the Jets’ pass rusher was a full participant on Wednesday and Friday.

Demario Davis, Mason Taylor, and rookie VJ Payne, who’s set to play in his first NFL game (if dressed), practiced fully on Friday and look good to go. Joseph Ossai remained a limited participant on Friday, as did Harrison Phillips, whose status is very much in doubt.

The New York Jets (2-6) and Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) are scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET from Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday.
