Ahead of Week 5, the New York Jets announced they are activating veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick from injured reserve. The team also waived Jamaal Pritchett, who joined the 53-man roster before Week 3.

Patrick looks to be in line for his Jets debut today against the Cleveland Browns. He signed with the team in May and is expected to serve as a veteran depth piece in a very young wide receiver room.

The 32-year-old is in his seventh NFL season, having entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Utah. Through 87 career games (49 starts), he has caught 191 of 304 targets for 2,590 yards and eight touchdowns. With the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025, he played in 16 games (three starts) and caught 15 of 24 targets for 187 yards and three touchdowns.

Patrick could have a role in the Jets’ offense today. They remain without Adonai Mitchell, who is still dealing with a finger injury, and could turn to the veteran in certain situations. He also offers some reliability as a run blocker, logging a 60.0+ run-blocking grade (above league average) from Pro Football Focus in each of his past three seasons. That’s what you need in a big-bodied depth receiver like Patrick.

Patrick was placed on IR with a groin injury just before Week 1, and now he is gearing up to start his season. Given the Jets’ wide receiver situation without Omar Cooper Jr. and Mitchell, his return couldn’t have come at a better time.

He is nowhere near the type of player to light up the stat sheet, but some veteran depth could never hurt in a thin unit.
