A potentially serious altercation was recently halted at the Tennessee Titans’ facility, and a former New York Jets standout was credited with playing peacemaker.
Last Thursday, then-Titans defensive tackle Jordan Elliott got into a heated argument with offensive tackle JC Latham after a play in practice. Elliott was told to leave the field, and he proceeded to take off his pads on the sideline and storm out of the team facility.
The seventh-year defensive tackle then went to his car in the players’ parking lot to retrieve a gun, which was captured by security cameras. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, citing sources familiar with the situation, the peacemaker who talked Elliott down was John Franklin-Myers, who made his name in the NFL as a member of the Jets from 2019-23.
Elliott missed the Titans’ Week 6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts with what was labeled a “personal” issue on the injury report. He was released on Tuesday. Titans coach Robert Saleh stated that Elliott had been dealing with “personal stuff.”
“This was so crazy,” an NFL source said. “Jordan has been having a lot of problems away from the building and obviously he brought it to work with him. There was no reason for him to go off like that. Everyone thought that was wild. To overreact like that is absolutely crazy. We’re just glad that no one got hurt and it’s over.”
Franklin-Myers, 30, played under Saleh with the Jets from 2021-23. After spending two years with the Denver Broncos from 2024-25, Franklin-Myers followed his former head coach to Tennessee after Saleh was hired by the Titans. The Stephen F. Austin product signed a three-year, $63 million deal.
Across 65 games with the Jets (52 starts), Franklin-Myers was a standout defensive lineman thanks to his versatility, as he could rotate between being a stout run-stopping edge defender and a swift interior pass rusher. He finished his Jets tenure with 125 total tackles, 61 quarterback hits, 17.5 sacks, seven pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, and an interception.
Franklin-Myers reached new statistical heights in Denver, setting a career-high with 7.0 sacks in 2024 and beating it again with 7.5 in 2025. Through six starts with the Titans this season, Franklin-Myers has posted 12 total tackles, four quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, and a pass deflection.
