The New York Jets have a prime opportunity to get back in the win column this afternoon, and they need to seize it.

After a frustrating 26-19 loss to the New England Patriots, the Jets return home at 2-4 to face the winless Miami Dolphins.

While Miami sits at 0-5, they are fresh off their bye week after a competitive one-score loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and a 15-10 loss the week prior to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. They haven’t proven themselves as a competent team this season, but they’ve shown signs of improvement in the past few games.

Aaron Glenn and the Jets have no excuses. Glenn is the first full-time coach in franchise history to lose all seven of his first divisional games, and that must change today.

Can the Jets take care of business, or will they hand Miami their first victory of the season? Here’s everything you need to know.

Weather

For the first time this season, rain shouldn’t impact today’s clash at MetLife Stadium.

It’s a solid day for late-October football, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s throughout the afternoon, even reaching a RealFeel of 70. Wind gusts are expected to reach about five miles per hour.

Uniforms

The Jets will rock their all-white classic throwback uniforms, featuring white helmets, white jerseys, and white pants. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are expected to wear white helmets, aqua jerseys, and white pants.

Injury report

Jets:

  • EDGE Joseph Ossai (ankle): Out
  • OT Max Mitchell (concussion): Out
  • RB Breece Hall (quad): Questionable
  • OL Dylan Parham (knee): Questionable
  • RB Kene Nwangwu (knee): Questionable

The biggest news for the Jets is the return of wide receiver Adoani Mitchell, who is slated to play after missing the last four games with a finger injury.

Mitchell caught nine passes for 123 yards over the first two weeks before going down. With Omar Cooper Jr. also back after a signature six-catch, 103-yard outing with a touchdown last week, Geno Smith finally has multiple viable WRs to complement Garrett Wilson.

Breece Hall and Dylan Parham are both questionable after returning to practice this week. Both players have been out since Week 4.

On defense, Joseph Ossai remains out with a nagging ankle issue.

Dolphins:

  • LB Willie Gay Jr. (illness): Questionable
  • EDGE Rob Beal Jr. (hamstring): Doubtful
  • CB Reese Taylor (quad): Out

Miami enters the matchup relatively healthy, which isn’t surprising since they had a bye last week.

The Dolphins will be without cornerback Reese Taylor, while edge rusher Rob Beal Jr. is doubtful. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. rounds out the injury report as questionable while he battles an illness.

Overall, the Dolphins are in solid shape on the injury front.

What to watch for

Can the Jets’ pass rush take advantage?

The Jets’ pass rush has been inconsistent this season. After recording eight sacks against the Cleveland Browns, the most by any team in a single game this season, they couldn’t bring down Drake Maye once last week.

Fortunately, the Dolphins provide a favorable matchup in that facet. Malik Willis has held the ball for at least four seconds on a league-high 21.5% of his dropbacks this season.

Willis is certainly an athlete and can escape pressure, but the Jets’ pass rush will have time to get into the backfield. Will they turn pressures into sacks, though?

Can the Jets get their offense going?

With Mitchell back in the fold, Smith will have multiple viable pass-catching options today for the first time since early in the year.

The Jets still rank 27th in points per game (18.7), and the offensive inconsistency has been a big reason why they have struggled to come out on top in close games.

Against a winless Miami team, the Jets need to get their offense rolling early and put points on the board.

Score prediction

  • Jets 21, Dolphins 10

The Jets haven’t exactly given fans many reasons to feel confident this season, but this is certainly a game they should win.

I expect the Jets to bounce back in this must-win game and do enough to pick up their first AFC East win under Glenn.
