The New York Jets free agency preview puts it on the line while reinforcing the organization’s only goal: build the infrastructure.
Finally, one man’s long wait is over. Joe Douglas will finally put some action to his thoughts as the legal tampering period of free agency is set to begin this Monday, March 16 (unless otherwise notified).
Douglas’s short time with the New York Jets hasn’t reflected “normal general manager” circumstances. Instead of a winter hiring, assuming duties prior to a team’s offseason, Douglas took control after the Adam Gase–Mike Maccagnan situation came to a head, after the 2019 NFL Draft.
Advantage? No question about it.
The norm for a new front office boss is sort of green in terms of what the organization is thinking. Remember, the scouting department has been working on this college class for well over a year. Douglas has been entrenched now for exactly that time period.
Exciting for Jets Fans, With One Stipulation
Exciting for Jets fans? Sure. But so was last year’s offseason and the year prior. A year ago, Le’Veon Bell was the rage and new uniforms led by Gotham Green smacked the faithful in the face with J.B. Smoove out in front.
Show me an NFL team who wins the offseason and I’ll eventually point to a bitter regular-season disappointment. Forget flash. Forget speed. Forget the highlight that’ll pop on SportsCenter. This offseason will be exciting for Jets fans as long as Douglas focuses on the infrastructure.
