Joe Douglas may be nearing another helpful signing.
According to sources by way of Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the New York Jets believe they will sign veteran cornerback Logan Ryan to a one-year deal.
Ryan, 29, was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. With the evil empire up north, he won two Super Bowls while using his versatility to help Bill Belichick’s defense.
The Rutgers product and Berlin, NJ native took his act to the Tennesee Titans prior to the 2017 season. There, he helped engineer one of the more shocking upsets in recent playoff history when his team knocked out the Pats in the first round of the playoffs this past January.
Ryan’s pick-6 of Tom Brady etched a memory in the minds of Pats fans everywhere, reminding them of how poorly No. 12’s last game in New England unfolded.
Logan Ryan % of cover snaps in the slot with the Titans:
2019 – 71.9% (448/623)
2018 – 72.1% (347/481)
2017 – 65.4% (349/534)With Pats:
2016 – 55.6% (309/556)
2015 – 28.2% (169/599)
2014 – 30.5% (93/305)
2013 – 34.4% (128/372)— Michael Nania (@Michael_Nania) May 12, 2020
Ryan picked off four passes, forced four fumbles, broke up 18 passes and finished with an incredible 113 tackles last year over 16 games. Missing only three games his entire career, the veteran will add a tough-minded presence to Gregg Williams’s defense.
Ryan did allow the most yards of any CB last year (967) but he also saw the most targets (114) and played the 3rd-most snaps in coverage (623)
On the plus side, he gave up 41 first downs on those 114 targets, a very solid rate of 36.0% (WR average was about 40.1%)

After a three-year, $30 million contract, his future in Tennessee became cloudy as soon as the season came to a close.
Ryan—assuming the signing comes to fruition—would join a cornerback room highlighted by youth. The likes of Bless Austin, Arthur Maulet, rookie Bryce Hall and newcomer Pierre Desir would be joined by a Super Bowl champ whose presence reaches far beyond the football field.
