The New York Jets waived punter Ian Berryman in order to make room on the roster for backup quarterback Joe Flacco.
Suddenly, rookie Braden Mann is the only man or the man on the New York Jets roster at the punting position.
The team announced it waived punter Ian Berryman on Wednesday.
Berryman, 23, was a longshot to make the final 55-man roster even when he was still employed as the only punter on the depth chart. Once the Jets selected the Texas A&M product in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft, Berryman’s writing on the wall had been etched in stone.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Berryman as an undrafted free agent after the 2019 draft but eventually cut the man (as part of final cuts) prior to the start of the regular season last year. He signed a reserve/futures contract with New York on Dec. 30 which set him up for gainful employment this past offseason.
The move makes room for the newly-signed Joe Flacco on the organizational roster, a move that was also officially announced on Wednesday.
