Williams, 31, was traded from the Washington Redskins to the 49ers this offseason in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick and 2021 third-round selection. The Jets were long rumored to be involved in a possible Williams trade considering the dire state of their offensive line over the last year.
In what seems to be an NFL transaction tradition, Williams posted one of the photos that was snapped during the signing session of his restructured deal with the Niners. To spice up this news cycle, he decided to tag Adams for no legitimate reason other than the fact the Jets strong safety included the team on his “list” of approved teams he wants to be traded to.
The Niners were just one of seven teams on the list. The others are the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks. ESPN”s Ryan Clark later added Tom Brady‘s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stretching the list to eight.
The Niners’ current salary cap looks decently healthy. With about $15 million in space, Adams could fit into their plans for the 2020 season.
The Jets and 49ers are scheduled to face off in Week 2 at MetLife Stadium—the home-opener for Jamal Adams if he’s still employed by the New York Jets.
