New York Jets rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims will miss the Seattle Seahawks game thanks to COVID-19 protocols.
Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims will miss his team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. New York Jets head coach Adam Gase announced the upcoming absence on Thursday’s Zoom call with media.
Jets players not practicing today: Ashtyn, Jackson, Jenkins, Van Roten, Gore (normal day off), Mims (non-injury related). ***Mims OUT for SEA game. Due to the COVID-19 protocol. Once a player leaves, he needs ample time to test to return.
Limited: Elflein, Perriman. #TakeFlight

Mims, 23, left the team at some point after their devastating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He flew home to his native Texas to deal with a “personal” issue relating to his family.
On Wednesday morning, Gase made it clear that Mims was at risk to miss Sunday’s game in the Great Northwest not because he left the team, but due to the fact he’d have to pass all of the required COVID-19 tests upon his return to the team. Since he hasn’t yet returned, there isn’t enough time for the Baylor product to pass all the necessary tests in time for Sunday.
Gase thought it was the right thing for Mims to do—fly home and take care of family issues.
Other injury news
Elsewhere, Ashtyn Davis (foot), Bennett Jackson (hamstring), Jordan Jenkins (shoulder), Greg Van Roten (toe) and Frank Gore (maintenance) won’t practice Thursday. Gore is still dealing with concussion-related issues following his quick exit from the Raiders loss, but Thursday is his regularly-scheduled maintenance day as well.
Limited in practice will be Pat Elflein (shoulder/ankle) and Breshad Perriman (shoulder).
The 0-12 Jets are still in search of their first victory, one that won’t be easy to find against the tough 8-4 Seattle Seahawks on the road.
