The New York Jets have requested to interview Eric Bieniemy, one of the NFL’s hottest head coaching candidates. Is he the right guy for the Jets?

Eric Bieniemy, a highly-respected 51-year-old coach who logged nine seasons as an NFL running back, has had one heck of a run as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. In just three years, he has led Kanas City to three consecutive top-three finishes in DVOA all while facilitating the development of possibly the most talented quarterback in NFL history, Patrick Mahomes.

Bieniemy was on the head coaching radar a year ago, but strangely went unhired. Now, he is arguably the most popular name in the pool of candidates, looking very likely to be spearheading his own team in just a few weeks.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets have officially requested to interview Bieniemy for their open head coaching position.

Is Bieniemy the right man for the Jets’ job?

Alongside Bieniemy’s sparkling resume comes a few question marks. With Andy Reid at the helm, how big of a role has Bieniemy actually played in Kansas City’s success? Plus, is there any coordinator who would not get production out of a team that has Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce leading the most talented offense in football? How about his leadership? Is he the culture-changing CEO that the Jets desperately need?

Beginning their series of interviews breaking down every possible Jets head coaching candidate, Ben Blessington and Michael Nania spoke to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest to learn everything there is to know about Bieniemy’s qualifications as a head coaching option for the Jets.
