NY Jets odds are all over the place right now, as seen by VSiN’s latest simulation prediction of over eight wins in 2021.
Going full Dr. Strange for the 2021 NFL season, the powers that be at the Vegas Stats and Information Network went through over 10,000 simulations of the coming campaign.
Fortunately for the New York Jets, their chances for success drastically outweigh The Avengers’.
Per VSiN’s projections, the Jets earned an average of 8.2 wins. Though that would no longer give the Jets a non-losing record in the NFL’s new 17-game setup, such a tally would account for their highest win total since the 2015 season.
The results were shared on the Prime Time Action show, hosted by Gill Alexander, Danielle Alvari, and Matt Brown. Brown lists the Jets’ eventful offseason as the catalyst behind the newfound green faith of both simulations and players.
“The Jets were one of the most active teams in free agency. They actually did a lot, there were a lot of really good signings here,” Brown says, highlighting the additions of Corey Davis, Carl Lawson, Keelan Cole, Sheldon Rankins, and Morgan Moses, among others. “They might’ve had one of the, if not the, very best free agencies out there because they went in, saw positions of need, saw high-profile people that they could bring in. Outside of (Kenny) Golladay, Corey Davis was probably the next biggest name out there (at receiver).
Brown further praises the Jets’ additions through the draft, namely their first four picks used on offense (Zach Wilson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Elijah Moore, and Michael Carter).
It’s noted that the Jets are currently tagged with an over/under of 6.5 wins by Pro Football Focus, worst in the AFC East. But Brown states the Jets went over that tally in over 78 percent of projections. Brown says it was one of the most drastic upgrades from prediction to simulation.
“This is factoring a different coaching scheme, these draft picks making some instant impact, these free agents making an instant impact. Also, looking at the rest of that division…one of the things I noticed, one of the discrepancies, is that (the simulations) are way lower on the Patriots than a lot of the other projections systems as well.”
Alas, Alexander brings things back to earth, nothing that anything beyond a last-place finish in the division would be a “surprise”. Nonetheless, he admits that Brown’s findings “should be music to Jets fans’ ears”.
