The Jets have one active QB on their roster
Per Connor Hughes of The Athletic, close contact COVID protocols will remove Joe Flacco and Mike White from the New York Jets’ Sunday visit to Houston (1 p.m. ET, CBS). Their departures did not affect the Jets’ previously reported decision to reinsert Zach Wilson into their lineup, as he has been fully cleared.
According to a further report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, While tested positive for the virus and Flacco was deemed a close contact, which will remove them both from Sunday’s contest.
Both Flacco and White have filled in for Wilson while the latter recovered from a sprained PCL suffered in an Oct. 24 game against New England, posting a 1-3 record over the last four games. The former confirmed he was unvaccinated prior to starting last weekend’s 24-17 loss to Miami, but declined to go into further detail, claiming it would be “more of a distraction than anything” to do so.
The situation puts the Jets in a bit of a bind when it comes to their backup.
With Wilson set to return against the Texans, the Jets (2-8) will likely have to sign practice squad rep Josh Johnson to a full-season deal, as he has already been promoted from the practice squad twice. The well-traveled Johnson filled in for an injured White during a nationally Nov. 4 game in Indianapolis, posting career-bests of 317 yards and three touchdowns in the 45-30 defeat.
