Will Zach Wilson be able to thrive in his first game back?
After missing four games with a knee injury, New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson is set to make his return to the starting lineup on Sunday against Houston.
The Jets have been a roller coaster in Wilson’s absence. They shockingly upset Cincinnati in Mike White’s first start then lost their next three games while playing three different quarterbacks.
Despite the uncertainty under center, New York’s offense has been extremely effective, ranking first in the league in yards per game since Week 8, their first week without Wilson.
How will Wilson and the rest of the offense respond to the change? Will the offense keep its pace or will it revert to its prior struggles?
Luckily for Jets fans, the entire offense has taken strides while Wilson has been sidelined, and he’ll be returning to a much better situation than the one he was in before.
The offensive line is drastically improved from their early-week outings in both pass protection and run blocking. The receivers, especially Elijah Moore, have started to explode in their featured roles.
Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur‘s revelation in play-calling since leaving the sideline and heading to the booth has unlocked the offense’s potential, and Wilson should only add to it.
If Wilson spent the time off learning to take what the defense gives him without losing his killer mentality in the process, the Jets offense should be ready to fly to new heights.
