Aidan Hutchinson is the shocking new favorite to be New York Jets’ draft pick at No. 4

The 2022 NFL draft is less than 24 hours away. On the eve of the big night, we’re seeing a dramatic shift in projections for what may happen at the top of the first round.

Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has been the favorite to be selected first overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars throughout the majority of the pre-draft process. However, his stock is experiencing a bewildering decline in the late stages ahead of the draft.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Hutchinson is now the odds-on favorite to be drafted by the New York Jets with the fourth overall pick (+350 as of 7:54 p.m. ET – of course, odds are subject to change).

Hutchinson is closely followed by the following players as the favorites at DraftKings to be chosen by New York with the fourth pick:

  • Florida State EDGE Jermaine Johnson II (+400)
  • North Carolina State OT Ikem Ekwonu (+400)
  • Cincinnati CB Ahmad Gardner (+400)
  • Oregon EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux (+450)

Hutchinson’s projected slip can be attributed to a drastic change in the consensus expectation for who will be taken in the top three.

Georgia edge rusher Travon Walker is gaining heavy traction as the favorite to be selected first overall by Jacksonville.

Meanwhile, Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is beginning to build momentum as the preferred option for the Detroit Lions with the second overall pick.

Lastly, there are a ton of rumblings that the Houston Texans may pull a rabbit out of their hats and take LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. with the third overall pick.

All of this could lead to the stunning development of Hutchinson becoming available for the Jets at four.

From your keyboard to Gods ears Michael. Hutchinson would be a huge win for the Jets. A great motor is the most important piece of of the puzzle for any playmaker. IMO.

A nitpick, but his odds would have to be in the minus range, or less than 1/1, to be an “odds-on favorite.” He’s just a favorite here. It’s interesting, although there’s only like a 20% chance he’s there at that point in this reckoning, if he is there they’ll definitely take him, so his odds are relatively low compared to the other more questionable selections.

This would be an awesome outcome but I’m of course skeptical. Think this is some draft week smoke screens that won’t be true.
