His arrival was heralded by metropolitan blocking legend Nick Mangold, who publicly announced the selection love from the 72nd floor of The Shard in London.
Mitchell, 22, is a three-year starter with the Cajuns and developed a reputation as a physical and athletic blocker.
He partook in three postseason trips with Louisiana, the most recent being a victorious visit to the New Orleans Bowl in December, a 36-21 win over Marshall that capped off a 13-win season, setting a program record and extending a streak of 10-plus win seasons to three years.
For his efforts, Mitchell was named to the All-Sun Belt team for the second straight season and was also granted third-team All-American honors.
The Jets’ final schedule pick is slated to arrive in the 117th slot.
